Softball Divisions

Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved at any level at TWLL. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, local league board members and other volunteer positions within the league.

6U Tee Ball/Coach Pitch (ages 4-6)

6U is for girls aged 4-6 who are just beginning to play softball. The basics of the game are taught, focusing on the fundamentals of throwing, catching, hitting and running. Hitting is done from a tee for beginners, and as players progress, they will learn to hit pitches thrown by a coach. Games are played against other all-girl 6U teams from TWLL and other nearby Little Leagues (such as South Sunrise).  The games are played with an emphasis on fun, learning, and development to prepare players for the 8U level of play. Games are not scored, though outs are recognized to reward good defensive play.

8U Minor Division - Player/Coach Pitch (ages 6-8)

The 8U division is for ages 6-8 and emphasizes the development of basic playing skills (throwing, catching, fielding, and batting) and introduces playing rules. This division uses a combination of player pitch and coach pitch. The goal is to teach players about the sport in a non-competitive environment that emphasizes having fun. Coaches will introduce players to the elements of team work and sportsmanship. Players should be given equal playing and the opportunity to play all defensive positions.

10U Minor Division – Player Pitch (ages 8-10)

The 10U Division is for ages 8-10 and emphasizes development of players and their skills and also introduces more rules and situations of the game. This division is a Player Pitch division, and bunting, stealing, and sliding are allowed. Even playing time among players is encouraged, but playing time is determined by the manager subject to minimum requirements and may not be equal. This division is intended to offer a moderate level of competition, where the concept of winning and losing is introduced, but is always secondary to player development, learning sportsmanship, and having fun.

12U Majors Division – Player Pitch (ages 10-12)

The 12U offers a higher level of competition where players learn and put into play the tactics and strategy of the game of softball. Playing time is determined by the manager subject to minimum requirements. Although winning games is a goal, the primary emphasis is for players to develop skills, physical fitness, and self confidence, to understand the rules of the game, and to learn the value of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play. TWLL may choose to open its 12U division to 10-,11- and 12-year-olds, or limit it to 11-12-year-olds.
